Regional Overview
Over the last 25 years, Virginia’s Gateway Region has been one of the fastest-growing areas in the country, and our outstanding business community has mirrored our population and development growth: between 2006 and 2007, VGR has made 29 announcements which have resulted in the creation of 1,221 new jobs and a total capital investment in the region of $596 million.
These new companies vary broadly in services—from specialty materials for home construction and the manufacturing of printing machinery to chemical engineering and turbine-engine manufacturing —and provide you with an idea of the scope of businesses that our workforce can support.
In every sense of the word, our region’s resources are abundant. Our workforce is diverse and expanding; our available land is ample and affordable; our roads, rail, airports, and ports can reach anywhere on the East Coast and beyond; and our natural resources, particularly water, are in excellent supply.
