Airfield 4-H Conference Center
The Airfield 4-H Conference Center has multiple functions including use for conferences, banquets, reunions, retreats, summer camps, 4-H programs and other miscellaneous group experiences. There are also multiple lodging types and various outdoors resources such as a ropes course, camping facilities, sports fields, nature trails, swimming, canoes and boating, horseback riding facilities and more.

Appomattox Boat Harbor
Family owned and operated for more than 40 years, the Appomattox Boat Harbor is less than 2 miles from Southpark Mall. The harbor has over 50 floating slips and land storage, as well as the area’s widest and longest ramp open 24 hours a day.

Appomattox River Trail
The Appomattox River Trail stretches across multiple communities in the region. Starting at Roslyn Landing Park, the riverside trail has been built in phases over the past few years and has public facilities, small boat launch areas, interpretive signs and trails spurs and is bike accessible along the main riverfront path.

Chanco on the James
In need of a retreat? Chanco on the James has served the area as a retreat center for youth and adults as well as one of the longest running summer camp programs in the state. Situated on 125 acres of woods surrounded by natural wildlife along the James River, this quiet spot is the perfect nature getaway.

Colonial Heights Community Center
Effective January 1, 2020, the Community Center will be available in rental blocks; weekdays from 4:30pm to 9:00pm, and weekends from 8:00am to 2:00pm, and 3:00pm to 9:00pm. The rental fee is $100 per block. Also beginning with 2020 rentals, a Recreation and Parks staff member will be on-site during rentals to assist renters with questions/concerns, adherence to rules, and insure proper use of the building.
Community Center rentals are available to Colonial Heights residents and organizations only, and reservations must be made in person at the Recreation & Parks Department. Reservation requests begin the first business day of December for the following year. Call the Recreation & Parks Department at 520-9390 for more information or to check availability.

Located behind the vocational school on Conduit Road, this unique Skate Park is open for anyone interested in developing their bicycle, rollerblade, or skateboard skills.

The Country Club of Petersburg combines both the social and athletic aspects of golf, offering a beautiful landscape as well as exclusive clubhouse. Other membership amenities include tennis and swimming complexes and junior athletic program.

Dinwiddie Sports Complex
The Dinwiddie County Sports Complex is a multi-purpose facility currently housing many athletic fields including a football stadium, baseball field, soccer stadium and NCAA and high school level championship softball fields. The complex has hosted numerous collegiate programs including Virginia Commonwealth University soccer, Richard Bland College and multiple NCAA Division II baseball teams.

Dogwood Trace Golf Course
The Dogwood Trace Golf Course opened in 2008 and is proudly owned and operated by the City of Petersburg. The club focuses on offering a great golf game to players of all calibers, with more challenging pars and fairways.

Gray’s Creek Marina
Gray's Creek Marina is a small marina and public boat launch area, with attached restaurant. Owned by Surry County, visitors can paddle or boat along this deep water tributary of the James River. The popular Surry Seafood Company restaurant is located in the marina.

Cameron Field not only has a rich history, but offers residents acess to premier park amenities such as a locker room, concession stand, bleachers and stadium atmosphere. The Park also includes football and soccer fields and walking track.

Hog Island Wildlife Management Area
Hog Island Wildlife Management Area is a 3,908-acre system of islands and dikes. It has a mixture of open areas, forests and marshes. This protected area on the James River is a great area for hiking and some controlled hunting and fishing.

Hopewell City Marina
This city-owned marina with well-maintained facilities is adjacent to Hopewell and close to downtown. Completely renovated in 2014, the Hopewell Marina offers great access to James and Appomattox Rivers.

Hopewell Riverwalk
The Hopewell Riverwalk is a project that has been years in the making. The Friends of the Lower Appomattox River was the first group to recognize the beauty and benefits of public river access at the Copeland site (now known as City Park). Volunteer-led cleanup efforts eventually provided the public with river access and the group raised funds for the addition of the park's first amenities like a pavilion and fishing pier.

Woodlawn Park
Hopewell Recreation and Parks is excited to celebrate new improvements at Woodlawn Park, a 1.5 acre neighborhood playground that has served the community for decades. The site has been on the Recreation Department's capital project funding request for years and was listed as the top priority in fiscal year 2019. The improved park space features an all-new 6,000 square foot playground, a new picnic pavilion, state-of-the-art outdoor fitness equipment, updated landscaping, and a paved walking trail. The $236,000 improvement project was funded both by capital improvement funds and a combination of grants.
